Alerts, Tally Engineer, and Auto-Recovery
Quick Start
Go to alert settings and turn on notifications (e.g., Telegram)
Confirm the Tally Engineer panel is visible and showing data
Simulate a problem (like disconnecting the ATEM) and check that you receive an alert
Confirm the app tries to reconnect automatically
Who This Is For
Teams that want Tally to detect problems and alert them during services.
What You Will Accomplish
Set up alert notifications
Understand the Tally Engineer diagnostics system
Test alerts and auto-recovery
Prerequisites
Step-by-Step Setup
Go to the alert settings in your church portal or app settings.
Set up which channels should receive alerts (e.g., Telegram). Your admin will provide the bot details and chat ID.
Check that the Tally Engineer diagnostics panel is visible and showing system data.
In a non-production environment, create a controlled problem:
Disconnect the ATEM (unplug or change its IP)
Stop the stream in your encoder
Mute the main audio output (restore it immediately after)
Safety: Only do this during testing — not during a live service! Restore all connections right away.
For each test problem, check:
You received a notification in the right channel
System information was captured
Tally attempted to reconnect or fix the problem automatically
Validation Checklist
Common Issues and Fixes
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Getting too many repeat alerts | Alert suppression window is too short | Increase the cooldown time in alert settings |
| No alerts at all | Notifications turned off or wrong channel settings | Check that notifications are on and channel details are correct |
| Auto-recovery not working | Tally doesn't have control access to the device | Make sure Tally has full control access, not just monitoring |
| Diagnostics look incomplete | Not enough status data being collected | Make sure all equipment is connected and reporting |
Rollback / Fallback
Keep monitoring active but turn off automatic recovery actions.
Switch to manual confirmation for all recovery actions.
